Dunedin, Florida, in Pinellas county, is 4 miles S of Palm Harbor, Florida (center to center) and 19 miles W of Tampa, Florida. The city is considered part of the Tampa-Saint Petersburg-Clearwater metropolitan area. The name Dunedin comes from the Scottish Gaelic word 'Dùn Èideann,' meaning Edinburgh. Originally, Scottish families settled here in 1899. Dunedin has very strong Scottish roots and traditions that are maintained to this day. The city hosts several annual festivals like the Highland Games, and the very popular Mardi Gras celebration. It is home to several exotic beaches and some rare open waterfront communities.
