Safety Harbor

Safety Harbor, Florida, in Pinellas county, is 6 miles E of Clearwater, Florida (center to center) and 14 miles W of Tampa, Florida. The city is included in the Tampa-Saint Petersburg-Clearwater metropolitan area.Safety Harbor was earlier known as Worth’s Harbor. It used to be inhabited by the Tocobago and Timucuan Indians. Spanish explorers landed in this area around 1528, the first being Panfilo de Narvaez. He was followed by another Spaniard, Hernando De Soto in 1539. The modern settlement of Safety Harbor began with a Frenchman, Count Odet Philippe. The city was incorporated in 1917.
